Why single women are still single.

Edited to add...apparently there is an f-bomb shown on the screen and I didn't know it. I'm so sorry to have corrupted any of you. So listen but don't look at the screen. SORRY!

Heard this on the radio today -- it's totally worth taking 4:28 out of your day to listen.

My day in pictures

I live in mild, temperate not-quite-Seattle. I really love summer and the sun and crave this time of year. I know it's much hotter in other parts of the world (Lindsey, no need to mention your 110 or whatever it was today) but the thing that sets not-quite-Seattle apart from CA, AZ and UT is that 85% of us don't have air conditioning in our homes.

So here is my day in pictures. Please note the top number is the outdoor temperature, the next line is the indoor temperature and the third line is the time of day.

So here is the 8:30 AM photo:

Here's what it was like at 12 noon, just prior to drying my hair. No, it was not a pretty sight.

Here is what I came home to after church:

And finally, here is what it's like now...just before bedtime:

So really, the only thing you can do when your home is basically an oven is (a) eat popsicles, (b) drink Minute Maid Light Limeade and (c) watch the America's Next Top Model cycle 6 marathon you tivo'd just before leaving for church (don't judge.)

Even then, you're still stinkin' hot. And not in the way you want to be.

Musings on a Sunny Saturday

  • It's supposed to be close to 90 here today. I say "yay" now but will be hating it come bedtime when my ground floor condo is disgustingly hot and I can't leave the windows open because I fear being robbed, raped, and/or pillaged whilst I sleep.
  • I got a pedicure yesterday. It's been like 8 months since my last one. I have no idea why I waited so long. I love having pretty, painted toes. I pretty much stick to OPI "I'm not really a waitress." It's the best color ever.
  • HELP NEEDED! On Monday it'll be 4 weeks exactly until camp. I still don't have identifiers figured out for my girls. An identifier is something they wear while at camp to set them apart from the other levels. It should go with the theme of camp (AWARDS) and also our level theme (Musicals.) Think hollywood glamour (but not feather boas because they're messy & hot.) I have an idea for something that involves sewing but haven't pulled the trigger yet. (don't want to post it just in case any of the girls are reading my blog.) Most people do some sort of hat, visor, scarf but I want to be different. Things to remember - it'll be hot, I have a miniscule budget, and these girls usually like to stand out from the crowd because it's their last year and they want to shine. Any fabulous ideas will be happily accepted.
  • I'm leaning toward Jeremy or Jesse for DeAnna on the Bachelorette. Although, Jason really seems to like her and I love his sweetness & his darling son, I just don't see them together. But here's a question, have you seen her do any press or interviews where she says "I'm engaged" or "I'm in love" like we saw Matt doing last year? I haven't. Is it just because it's summer and all of the talk shows are on vacation? Or is it because she chooses no one on the finale??? Hmm.
  • I'm so loving the Legally Blonde show on MTV! Is anyone watching it???
  • SYTYCD -- I'm still totally on the Katee & Joshua bandwagon but also loving Twitchington. Such a fun show! I can even handle Mary's screaming. Go figure.
  • I'm switching cell phone plans in a week and I can't wait. I will be on the same plan as my sister & mom AND I'm going to get a fun new phone that will let me text more easily & send/receive pictures. The techno-geek inside of me is thrilled to have a new gadget.
  • I'm up to four packages I haven't yet mailed but need to mail. I went so far as to get the flat rate box I need for Hawaii but why can't I just go to the post office? Is it because there is always a mondo long line and only two people working the counter which means at least a half hour inside a tiny waiting area? Is it because the people you stand in line with have no sense of personal space and they stand way too close? Is it because there just aren't enough hours in the day to actually drive there? Answers gladly accepted in the comments section.

I think I'm going to work on camp projects outside and maybe get a little sun. Hope you have a sunny day wherever you are!

Is Tim McGraw blogworthy? I think so!

So last night I went to see Tim McGraw in concert. A friend of mine was given tickets as a gift and she invited me to come along. Our seats were about 2/3 of the way back from the stage so not that close but not terrible. Opening for Tim were Halfway 2 Hazard and Jason Aldean. The H2H guys were okay -- a little loud but okay. Next came Jason and the girls started screaming. Jason appears to be a little Kenny Chesney-esque. He put on a nice little show but I had never even heard any of his songs. Here's a pic (my camera has 10X zoom, by the way - highly recommend you never skimp on the zoom when buying a digital camera!)

At about 9 PM, the man himself, Tim McGraw appeared on stage.

I seriously love him.

He's wearing a button down shirt made of LEATHER!

Notice in this next video that he's changed into a black wife-beater. Here's a little taste (I didn't know how long I could record & still be able to download so the videos are short - and please excuse the shaking and stuff.)

About 45 minutes into the show, the band was finishing up a song and he said "wait a minute" and then he came back in the other shirt. He said "I don't know what I was thinking wearing a leather shirt - that was way too hot." We all swooned a little.

Here's a little of "I Like it, I Love it." I have to say, his voice sounded much stronger last night than it does on the video - interesting!

My favorite song of the night was "Live Like You Were Dying."

Here's "How Bad Do You Want it" and an added bonus, you get some nice views of Tim.

And here's "Something Like That" -- and I wish I would have recorded more! But if these snippets don't make you run and download everything Tim has on iTunes then I don't know what's wrong with you.

And we'll finish up with "Real Good Man." Sigh. He's dreamy.

Another interesting thing that happened last night: during Indian Outlaw, he said something like "there's a drunk guy here - Security, take him out." And then Tim started pulling the guy's arms and pulling on the guy's wifebeater (it was that kind of night) to pull him up out of the throng crushing the stage. Security came and got the beefy guy up onstage and then the guy sort of stormed at Tim like he was going to punch him. Of course, they shuffled him right off the stage. The news today said the guy was being a jerk and heckling Tim and standing in front of people and just being a dorky drunk guy. The coolest thing was Tim didn't miss a beat and just kept on singing like nothing had happened.

He sang two full hours and we had the best time. I'd seen him with Faith on their last tour and I have to say, he's much better on his own. Faith is beautiful and talented but she doesn't have the stage presence that Tim has. So if you ever get the chance to go see him, you should. And I'll gladly go with you - even if I have to buy my own ticket. Because just look at the guy. He's totally worth it.

Awards Shows

I got home last night from a fun night with my stamp club (love those girls) and watched the news and went to bed. I just woke up, turned on my computer and read who won the daytime Emmys last night. As a former soap opera watcher, I always kind of wonder how "my" show, General Hospital, did (they won a bunch.) But two things caught my eye in the list of winners:
  1. The View ladies did NOT win for best talk show host - Ellen did. This makes me a little happy because of my strong dislike for Barbara Walters. And Ellen is really the best anyway, even if the View ladies have never won.
  2. The Tyra Banks show won for best talk show???????? ARE YOU KIDDING ME???????? I am just floored and wonder if it was a typo. I'm sure Oprah has taken her show out of the running after so many wins. Did Ellen take hers out too? And how could Tyra have beaten Reege??? I like trashy TV just as much as the next girl but the Tyra show is just yuck. Awards shows are so dumb.

Camp meeting this AM -- hope people show up!

My sister's dreams

Edited to add: I should have also said I think my sister is so lucky to have vivid dreams of the Savior that confirm some of the things we believe. I never dream anything like that. I was only thinking of the funny parts when I posted last night. She's amazing -- even if she pictured the angels with wild sk8r boi hair! ha!
Please go read my sister's blog about her recent crazy dreams about the Second Coming. They really just made me laugh a lot...especially the part about the angels having hair like Andy Samberg and then the confirmation that Jesus looks like Simon Dewey's version of Him, not Del Parsons'. Dreams are just the funniest things.

Oh and she has a Hawaiian song playing on her blog so turn your sound down before clicking on the link. You've been warned.

Hormones & a little TV

Okay, if you're not a girl, just stop reading. You won't get it and it's okay. Come back another day (just not in another 26 days or so.)

So this has been the worst "time of the month" for me in a really long time. It began with unexplained tears beginning last Friday night and continuing throughout the weekend. Then Sunday night I couldn't sleep. I just laid there, crying and thinking, "I'm ignored and invisible." It was awful.

Monday night? More insomnia, minus the tears. I was awake until at least 1 AM. At least on one of those nights "While You Were Sleeping" came on TNT. That's a "happy place" movie for me and it calmed me down and I was out soon after it started. I've since caught up on my sleep but I'm still feeling sort of blah about life. Hopefully I'll get back to normal soon because it's totally cutting into my blogging.

TV update: Legally Blonde - Natalie is my new favorite. Bachelorette? Hating DeAnna more and more each week. And why is Jesse even still around? They hug like they're brother and sister and he won't even kiss her even though she basically was telling him to with her eyes and lip-licking. Stupid boy. SYTYCD - love it. Katee and Joshua are my favorites. Love them. I didn't like anything last night as much as I loved their "No Air" routine last week (the best EVER!)

And that's that.
